Overclocking was painless and let our 5.2 GHz Core i9-10900K CPU run to its thermal limits. The automatic overclocking worked well, too, but overvolted slightly compared to our manual result; that seems to be the theme with the Z490 boards we’ve tested so far. The monster 16-phase VRM easily handled the CPU at these speeds.
Cooling is up next with several notables such as an active fan on the VRM heat sink to ensure that even under the toughest conditions, the ACE will stand up to the loading. Although it is worth noting that the VRM is so massive and overkill, I do still question if it needs a heat sink, let alone an active one.
A slick-looking premium board for 10th Gen Intel, the MEG Z490 Ace has an attractive feature set and wise PCB arrangement, but issues with the firmware suggest waiting for some patching-up, especially considering the price.
